  33. Courier 1/23/96 firmware Release Notes
  34.  
  35. This new firmware adds two new S registers, S69 and S70.  Also added 
  36. is the 
  37. #CID setting.  Its important that after the new firmware is flashed, 
  38. that 
  39. these settings be set to 0 and saved to NVRAM.  The USR.CFG file 
  40. included 
  41. performs that operation.  This can also be done by sending the command 
  42. ATS69=0S70=0#CID=0&W to the modem.  If these S registers are left 
  43. uninitialized, it may cause the modem to work incorrectly.

  49. The Courier new release addendum documents the following new features 
  50. in

  54. 1.  Caller ID (CLID)
  55. --------------------
  56.  
  57. Caller ID is NOT supported on daughterboard Courier modems.  Only 
  58. single board
  59. Courier modems support Caller ID.  Owners of daughterboard Couriers 
  60. may
  61. have their modem modified with a hardware change to support caller ID 
  62. for a 
  63. fee of $24.95.  Please call Customer Support on 1 800 550 7800 for 
  64. details.

  66. Both Basic and Extended Caller ID are supported.  Basic Caller ID 
  67. provides 
  68. the date and time of the caller and the calling party's telephone 
  69. number.  
  70. Extended Caller ID provides the billing name associated with the 
  71. calling 
  72. party's telephone number in addition to the Basic service information.

  74. Formatted and unformatted presentation formats are supported.  
  75. Formatted 
  76. output presents the Caller ID information as a list of fields and the 
  77. values received by the Courier.  Unformatted output presents the raw 
  78. Caller ID data as a string of hexadecimal characters.

  100. 2.  Distinctive Ring
  101. --------------------
  102.  
  103. Distinctive Ring is sometimes known as MultiRing or RingMaster.  It is 
  104. a 
  105. service provided by the local telephone company that permits the 
  106. assignment 
  107. of multiple telephone numbers to one line.  Each number is associated 
  108. with a 
  109. different ringing pattern.
  110.  
  111. The Courier recognizes four ring patterns known as ring A through D.
  112.

  128. selected by the bits which are turned on.  The Courier will return a 
  129. result 
  130. code of RING A, RING B, etc.

  143. The Courier modem now supports Plug and Play as defined by the 
  144. Microsoft
  145. Plug and Play Specification for External COM devices v1.00.  To 
  146. disable Plug
  147. and Play for the external, set S69.0=1.  The default is S69.0=0 which 
  148. enables
  149. Plug and Play for the external Courier modem.
  150.  
  151. A new Courier ISA bus modem will begin shipping in March 1996.  This 
  152. new
  153. internal Courier (ISA bus) supports Plug and Play, but is shipped 
  154. configured 
  155. for COM2: IRQ 3.  To configure the Courier ISA bus modem for Plug and 
  156. Play, 
  157. set the COM jumpers to cover both positions on columns B and C.

  160. 4.  Carrier Loss Dialback
  161. -------------------------
  162.  
  163. The Courier can now re-establish lost connections automatically.  To 
  164. enable
  165. this feature, set S44.1=1 (S44=2).  When a connection is lost and 
  166. carrier is
  167. no longer present, the modem will wait the time specified by S44 
  168. (seconds)
  169. and then redial the previously dialed number.  The Courier will 
  170. attempt to
  171. reconnect up to 10 times.

  175. FIXES AND IMPROVEMENTS

  177. 1.  When the modem is configured to reset on DTR drop, it will now 
  178. send a
  179.     V.42 DISC command to the remote modem before disconnecting and 
  180. resetting.

  182. 2.  ATI3 changed to output banner "USRobotics Courier V.Everything".  
  183. ATI3
  184.     can still be used to set the modem's clock in the same manner as 
  185. previous
  186.     firmware.

  188. 3.  Corrected intermittment failure to send TSI frame in Class 2.0

  191. 4.  Corrected ability to use ";" to send multiple commands in fax 
  192. mode.  ie.
